I know, I know, graduation already happened and stuff so you’re off in Aruba or wherever your stupid rich parents sent you so they wouldn’t have to hear about your philosophy class this semester but some dudes who just graduated have released an EP. Short Dads, consisting of Maxx Salat on guitar and bass, Colin Manjoney on synthesizer, and Jonathan Benbeniste on drums, are a weird indie space rock trio. It’s very beepy-bloopy and melodic through the cacophony, at times reminding me of “Interstellar Overdrive” and other early experiments in the psychedelic, but the mixture of old and new in their sound keeps them fresh. Download it for FREE above.
We didn’t cover Senior Fun Day or any of that junk because a) we trust you can figure it out for yourselves and b) Wiecking students can’t be sponsored to stay for Senior Week so FUCK ALL OF YOU, but this is something we should really make note of. Trophy Wives will be playing their last ever show on Monday. Yes, that’s right, not last until next year but last ever. Graduation and life and stuff, you know. We don’t have any details yet but we’ll keep you posted – this is one show you won’t want to miss, unless of course you’re STUCK AT HOME BECAUSE EVERYONE IN WIECKING GOT FUCKED.
A little pre-graduation treat: two new songs from the Bedfellows! Free, as always.
Bo Peep bass-thumper and vocalist Will Sacks has released a new single mastered by fellow Bo Peep-er and Skidmore’s Rick Rubin David Slitzky. Will’s unique style emerges from the simple fact that bass is the center of his musical framework, not the classic acoustic guitar. Check it out below and download it for FREE.

That’s right – before graduation, the seniors in Bailiwick are having one more performance, also featuring The Bedfellows. Tomorrow (Thursday) night. If you want to know where it is badly enough, you’ll figure it out. Hint: it’s not Bloomfield.

IN ADDITION TO THAT WONDERFUL NEWS, Mugsy fuckin’ Boges (pictured above being cute as fuck) are playing with Skidmore’s own dearly departed and fellow math rockers Slim Charles on Friday. Words can’t describe how excited I am. Hannibal Montana will also be playing, and while I don’t believe they are affiliated with Skidmore, they have a cool name and have played with Mugsy and Slim Charles before. If you want to know where it is badly enough, you’ll figure it out. Hint: it’s not Bloomfield. We don’t really want to give the locations/house names on our website. Besides, now you have an adventure!
While passing through Media Services, I happened to overhear something familiar playing in one of the back rooms. It took me a moment to realize it was “Triangles.” Looks like Dave Slitzky is hard at work – could Los Elk Pt. 2 be coming soon?
Yo Soy Milk’s first extended set with replacement drummer Ethan Formichella and really, their first (and by the looks only) full set this semester. Also, Ghost Dinner Band is going to rock it.
Skidmore’s own Turkish Coffee will be playing tomorrow at Falstaff’s opening for Berklee band Midnight Snack. Turkish Coffee has played Beatlemore and I believe some house parties. I have never heard an entire set of their material. It should be cool. Midnight Snack played during the fall semester last year and I missed it cuz I was a stupid freshman. But now i’m smart, so ima go and I advise you to do the same.

After months of anticipation, Bo Peep and the Funk Sheep are releasing their first ever single tomorrow. I heard it would be coming in a few weeks several times throughout the semester, but as frontman and bassist Will Sacks put it, they want to make sure everything sounds as fucking amazing as possible. I expect great things from both the band and drummer/producer David Slitzky, and I’m sure they won’t disappoint. Now if only they were playing Fun Day…
???
If you know anything about the Fun Day band lineup, contact us or comment on this post. As possibly the biggest musical event of the year, we want to report on who is playing ASAP.
UPDATE: here’s what I got so far: grrrrrrrr. so apparently there are only three bands playing instead of six like last year. Los Elk (they’re also playing the Tang Party the day before) will be playing 1st and Good Neighbor will be playing. I do not know the other band playing. However, No Bo Peep and The Funk Sheep, No Camper, No HAP,No Spare Tires, No Beardo, No Yo Soy, none of the other bands, no fun? Similar to this years Tang Party and Fall Fun Day, I’m assuming they’ll be alternating between DJs and bands. Blah. meh. :( treason :(
sorry for the unorganized and somewhat unclear info. but grrrrrrrrr. :(
UPDATE #2: A possibly reliable source in the comments of this article (does IHB stand for Inter-Hall Board or is it a seriously confused IBC Root Beer fanatic?) says Camper is the other band. We heard that they were not applying to play Fun Day, but with how fucked up this situation already is, I wouldn’t be shocked if two of the three bands playing were also playing the Tang Party.
